There are times when doing more is not the most useful starting point. Restorative yoga and meditation offer a different kind of inquiry: noticing how you settle, where your attention goes, and how chronic ‘fight or flight’ responses sabotage the organic flow of your vital life force.
Practice
Restorative yoga sessions allow the body to slow down and relax in a small number of asanas. Each pose is held for longer than usual, sometimes for twenty minutes, so a session may consist of only four to six asanas. The long holding of poses is often facilitated by props such as folded blankets, blocks, and bolsters to ensure the body is fully supported and so to allow the muscles to relax.
Slow gentle movement and wakeful rest
This meditative yoga practice is not a fancy way of taking a nap, nor is it focused on stretching, which could easily become another way to generate a kind of craving. Instead, it is a ‘not-doing.’ Restorative asana practice provides a framework for organic, natural breathing without forcing or working towards improving fitness.
A personal rather than prescribed approach
Achmed brings his background in movement & dance, and his longstanding interest and practice in spiritual inquiry to this relaxation-focused yoga practice. His personalized guidance and facilitation invite you to become aware of your own needs to enter a space of inner silence, stillness, and openness to an as-yet unknown state of body-mind well-being, not aiming for achieving any specific results in terms of preconceived notions of health and fitness.
Discuss your personal needs prior to the session
Contact Achmed to confirm the format and any practical preparation. If you are considering an online appointment, ask whether it is suitable for the kind of work you want to explore. In-person sessions are arranged at the Camp Verde office for one-on-one restorative yoga and meditation sessions.
$90 for 60 minutes. Discounted series of sessions are available.
